Browsing Banned websites in ubuntu
Hi
I am now going to show you the way about how to use TOR in ubuntu.
For this, you need to have an active internet.
I am now going to show you the way about how to use TOR in ubuntu.
For this, you need to have an active internet.
- learn this at your own risk. For EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY:
Preparing Ubuntu For installing TOR:
use this command in terminal- Code:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
If you use Ubuntu 9.10 or Ubuntu 10.04, at the end of file, write this line:- Code:
deb http://deb.torproject.org/torproject.org karmic main
now close the sources.list file and in terminal enter this command:- Code:
gpg --keyserver keys.gnupg.net --recv 886DDD89
It will download the necessary gpp key to verify tor.
The next command will add this key in your repository.- Code:
gpg --export A3C4F0F979CAA22CDBA8F512EE8CBC9E886DDD89 | sudo apt-key add -
Installing TOR:
Now, you must refresh the sources.- Code:
sudo apt-get update
And install TOR- Code:
sudo apt-get install tor tor-geoipdb
This will download and install TOR in your system(it will download roughly 6MB)
At this step TOR is installed.
Now you should install Polipo- Code:
sudo apt-get install polipo
Now, THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT. I almost lost my internet connection because I overlooked this part like a jackass :S
Go to this site first. Copy all the contents from it.
Now, type in terminal:- Code:
sudo gedit /etc/polipo/config
Delete everything from this file and then paste what you just copied.
Now, you must restart Polipo.
Simply type:- Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/polipo restart
Preparing Ubuntu for anonymous web browsing:
Now that we have installed both TOR and polipo, it is time we install something in firefox which will allow us to use TOR.
Download TOR button plugin for Firefox. Install it. restart Firefox.
Using TOR for anonymous browsing:
Simply click on the TOR button of firefox in the status bar.
It will turn green to show that TOR is enabled.
Now you can browse banned websites as you want
(It will be a little bit slow though
)
In face book, they might want you to enter private details such as your birth date. This will happen because currently you are browsing from any remote area such as Romania or USA
Last time you logged in, you were from Bangladesh. This triggers the security alert in your face book account.
Just enter the details correctly and you will be able to use face book in no time!!
In case you find any trouble configuring all these, here is the official tutorial.
